Join the Jitomato Team in Maastricht
Learn real hospitality. Paid trial shift. Hybrid service + kitchen role.
Want a serious hospitality job where guests actually care about the food and everything is made from scratch? Jitomato is an authentic Mexican fast-casual restaurant in the centre of Maastricht. We're looking for hybrid team members who love both great service and a clean, well-run kitchen.
Apply in 3 MinutesWhy Jitomato
- Everything made from scratch: tortillas, salsas, slow-cooked fillings. Guests come here for the food, and it shows.
- A small, respectful team where everyone (including the owner) has done every job in the building.
- Your trial shift is always paid. Under contract, on the books, no exceptions.
- Humane shifts: 5.5 or 8 hours, never a 12-hour open-to-close grind. Evening shifts finish around 22:00, afternoon shifts finish much earlier (often 16:30-19:00).
- Staff meal on shift, plus taste-everything training so you can talk about the food with confidence.
The Role
Your evening on the floor
Welcome guests, take orders and help people choose the right dishes, run food, clear and reset tables. You make people feel taken care of from the moment they walk in until the table is spotless for the next group. Typical evening shifts run 16:30-22:00. Afternoon shifts are shorter and finish earlier.
Your hour in the kitchen
Support the kitchen with simple prep, making and topping tacos, dishwashing and keeping stations spotless. As you grow, you help with the bigger preparations too: cochinita, tinga, the big stews. You're cross-trained so you can jump in where the team needs you most.
What you get
- Wages start from €17.91 per hour, all-in
- Paid, structured trial shift (3 hours) with clear feedback
- Real hospitality skills: POS, kitchen basics, service standards, working at pace
- Mainly evening and weekend shifts (our busiest, most fun times)
- Currently hiring for 2 to 3 shifts per week per person (more possible later, but not guaranteed)
- Staff meal on shift
Who you are
- You live within about 25 minutes of Maastricht centre
- You can legally work in the Netherlands (EU passport or valid permit). Non-EU international students are welcome too: we can apply for a TWV work permit, capped at 16 hours per week
- You're always available on Friday (afternoon or evening), plus at least one other shift. Sunday evening is a bonus, not required
- You take hygiene seriously and notice details like a dirty plate or a messy station
- English required; Dutch or Spanish is a plus
Scheduling & Reliability
- Shifts are usually 5.5 or 8 hours, and most days finish by 22:00.
- We plan the schedule up to 3 weeks ahead and do our best to work around studies, second jobs, and holidays.
- Our team basically never calls in sick last-minute. People tell us early when they can't work, and we plan properly. We'd like to keep that culture.
- Flexibility cuts both ways:
- If you're clear and broadly available, you'll get consistent hours.
- If you're away for a longer period (exams, long trips, new job), we may need to hire someone to cover those hours, so we can't promise the same number of hours when you return.
How We Work at Jitomato
Read this before you apply. These are non-negotiable for everyone on the team.
Authentic over easy
We're here to bring a real Mexican experience, not "Tex-Mex with fries". If you want to add burgers or water things down to please everyone, this won't be your place.
Make guests feel at home
Service here is warm, not cold. We read body language, remember faces, and treat people like guests in our house, not transactions.
Own it & grow
We'd rather you make a mistake, own it, and learn, than hide it. We give direct feedback and expect you to want it.
Keep it real
We speak honestly and directly with each other. No gossip, no passive-aggressive stuff. If something's wrong, we say it to your face, respectfully.
Who thrives here (and what we expect every shift)
- Clean first: when in doubt, you wipe, tidy, restock.
- Never stands still: you finish a task and immediately look for the next one.
- Learns the menu until you can explain every dish with confidence.
- Asks questions instead of hiding mistakes.
- Jumps in to help the team, even when it's "not your job".
- Stays positive when the pace picks up and genuinely likes taking care of guests.
If you live these, you'll love it here. If not, you'll hate it, and that's okay.
